Who are Labours??

Each and every people in this world is a labour who works to earn livelihood,to earn respect,to earn luxury etc.well we can say that we all are labours,but work of every labours have different magnitude someone's work can be tough in the same way someone's work can be easy but we all need to perform it so that we can achieve our goals.

Earlier the concept of labour was different. Labour were someone who use to work just manually in factories,stores and elsewhere and so they were considered inferior in the society also in the work place as a result of which they were not provided any kind of luxury and were also deprived of their basic rights,but as the day passed there several revolution took place in different part of the world which changed the minds of the people and eventually concept of labour was changed.

 If you google the meaning of labour it shows "workers, using your hands", well now a days each one of us uses our hand to do the work so it might have become clear that we all are labours. Even engineers are also called "A Skilled Labour" .

Why 1 May Is Celebrated As Labour Day???

This date was chosen by Pan-national organization to commemorate the Haymarket affair which occured on 4 may 1886 .

In Haymarket a peaceful rally in support of workers led to violent clash between police and the civilians leading to the death of 4 civilians and 7 police officers ,this rally included the workers protesting against their low wages,child labour and poor working condition. 

The US first recognised Labour Day as a federal holiday in 1894,where it continued to be celebrated on 1st Monday of september.In 1889 The Second International,an Organisation created by socialist and Labour parties,declared that May 1 would be commemrated as International Worker Day from then on.

Finally in 1916 ,the US began to recognise eight-hour work timings after years of protests and uprisings followed by that in 1917 after the Russian Revolution the celebration was embraced by the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc nations during the Cold war-becoming a national holiday in many of them.Parades were a part of the celebration-the one at Moscow's Red Square was attended by top communist leaders.

When Did India Celebrate Its 1st Labour Day??

In India May day was first celebrated on May 1,1923 after the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan initiated and Comrade Singaravelar  helmed the celebrations.Two meetings were held one at the Triplicane beach and the second at the beach opposite to Madras High Court.The Comrade known for being one of the leaders of Self Respect movement in the Madras Presidency and for his fight for the rights of backward classes,passed a resolution stating the government should allow everybody a national holiday on Labour Day.
